Uber drivers face more wait times in Montreal

Uber warns of higher prices and longer wait times following Toronto’s decision to freeze new licences for some ride-hailing companies.

Uber drivers, riding for the first time around the clock, will see more wait times in October.

The company has already been hit in Toronto and Ottawa for its new policy, which requires the use of an approved, or approved-by-default, partner.

Uber is also facing pressure in Montreal – where the company is in the process of acquiring a company for testing its service in the province.

Uber has a partnership deal with Lyft in Quebec, and says that its partnership with a third-party for ride-sharing in Montreal will continue in the fall.

Uber is not the first to find itself at odds with its regulators over regulations and competition.

There have been allegations of price-fixing in cities including Philadelphia and Newark, N.J., and Uber has said it is investigating possible price-fixing claims in Montreal.

The company’s recent policy update has raised concerns among Toronto Mayor John Tory, an Uber ride-hailing driver, and city councillor Jim Karygiannis.

Mr. Tory told councillors in a letter that he was “appalled” after Uber introduced the new rules, saying they were “unconscionable.”

On Tuesday, he met with the city’s chief administrative officer, Peter Milonas.

“We are very concerned about Uber’s decision to impose new rules and suspend Uber drivers’ licences,” he said.

“The proposed policy change is a clear attempt to remove drivers who use other ride-hailing apps and services, while increasing the number of drivers who use Uber.”

Mr. Milonas said he would “consider and make recommendations in the coming days” and said he would be meeting with Uber to discuss the new policy.

“As a result, we could see, for example, a dramatic increase in the number of late or cancelled rides, and a delay in making the next business day schedule and then the schedule the following business day,” he said.

“We have some concerns about the impact on driver safety and efficiency, as well as the impact on Uber
