Serena Williams teases tennis fans as she says ‘I’m not retired’

Serena Williams has been candid about her recent marriage and her current status as a mother when asked about her personal life.

The tennis superstar, 24, married former tennis star Juan Carlos Ferro in a televised ceremony at the Grand Slam tournament in New York City in May 2017, shortly after she won the U.S. Open title.

“I think it’s good, everyone has a different definition of what marriage is and what you need and when you need it,” she told CBS’ “Madam Secretary.” “I think I made that decision at 25 years old, and I think it’s best for me, for the sport, for my family and for my career.”

The mother of two — who ended her seven-month marriage earlier this year — said she has been “a mom” for the past nine years.

“I know that I would be lost without my two sons, so if I could have my family back I would just stay in my house and work at home,” said the reigning U.S. Open and finalist who also had a six-year marriage with former tennis player Jimmy Connors.

“I don’t want to take time off for no reason,” she said. “I don’t want to wait for everyone to make a decision.”

The tennis star was in Sweden to give birth to twin boys, Alexis and Jagger, in a private ceremony in Stockholm on Tuesday. She and the couple’s first child, Alexis, were born in 2014, and Jagger was born in 2017.

“I’m here for the twins, and my first child is here, that’s the important thing,” she added. “I’m not just concerned about my career, I’m concerned about my family, my health and my career.”
