Nadal says he's disappointed to miss the Australian Open

‘An important part of my life is leaving too,’ says emotional Rafael Nadal. “I like to win, but I would like to win a couple of good tournaments and also lose a few.”

The Spaniard suffered heartache in the French Open when he was forced to withdraw from the tournament following a string of back spasms, but he hopes to be fit for the upcoming Australian Open.

“I’m a little bit disappointed to say that, for the Australian Open, because I won’t be able to play as much tennis,” he said, according to Spanish publication Sport. “But it is the time that I need to be training harder and trying to get used to the new clay.”

Nadal is not the only one of his competitors feeling the burn. Nadal admits that the French Open wasn’t the ideal preparation for the Australian Open, even if he had hoped to be fully ready for the clay-court encounter.

“I didn’t have the chance to practice the clay, but it was a very good test because it was one of the toughest tournaments of the year and I had to play that kind of match,” he said. “So it was good.”
